Ten years have passed since Detroit’s last AC/DC performance.
AC/DC last played in Detroit in September 2015 as part of their “Rock or Bust World Tour” at Ford Field. When Guns N’ Roses performed at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2016, frontman Axl Rose took Brian Johnson’s place due to hearing issues. Johnson, who rejoined the band in 2018, is back in full force for this tour with the presence of lead guitarist Angus Young and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young. Bassist Chris Chaney and drummer Matt Laug will take the places of Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd.
AC/DC was founded in 1973 and has sold more than 200 million albums globally. Power Up, their 17th studio album, was released in November 2020 and was nominated for a Grammy in 2022 for Best Rock Album. For several generations of rock fans, hits like “Back in Black” and “Thunderstruck” continue to be anthems.
Next year, Ford Field will host three major events, including the AC/DC performance. Rapper Post Malone just revealed his “Big A– Stadium Tour,” which will make a visit in Detroit on May 18.
